The 12,739 dolls sent by
American children to Japan brought great joy to Japanese children. Below are
a couple of the thousands of thank-you letters that came to America, all written by hand
on Japanese paper, delicately decorated:
Many letters were also written
by Japanese children to accompany the 58 Friendship Dolls sent to America in
November 1927. One sixth-grade student wrote a
heartfelt letter that describes her love for Tamako, the name of the
Japanese Friendship Doll sent from Saitama Prefecture. She describes the
beauty of the region of Chichibu in Saitama Prefecture. English
